Record Travel Volume Expected During Spring Festival

 

Some 385 million people are expected to travel during the Spring Festival break in China, up by 12 percent from last year, according to a recent report by the country’s tourism administration.

The majority will opt for medium and long-haul travel, with the top 10 destination cities including Sanya in south China's Hainan Province, Harbin in northeast China's Heilongjiang Province, Hangzhou in east China's Zhejiang Province and Xiamen in southeast China's Fujian Province, among others.

Family packages featuring island activities in the south or snow activities in the north are by far the most favored choices during the holiday.

 

The Tourism Administration has also predicted that travelers will collectively spend around 476 billion yuan (U.S. $75.6 billion) during their trips, up by 12.5 percent year-on-year.

The report has noted some significant changes in people's travel habits for 2018, with 52.7 percent of them choosing a do-it-yourself approach instead of relying on travel agencies.

In terms of means of transport, 44.7 percent of travelers plan to go by privately owned vehicles, while those who take the high-speed train or ordinary train may account for 18.8 percent.

Apart from domestic scenic spots, overseas destinations will also be a hot market during the holiday The report suggests that about 6.5 million people will travel abroad during the Spring Festival period, another record high.

The administration reminds the travelers to be cautious of purchasing tourism products and resort to legal approaches when their rights are violated.
