On the afternoon of March 7, 2018, the Reception for Women from China and Abroad in Commemoration of March 8th was held by theat the Great Hall of the People, in Beijing.

March 8th first became the International Women's Day in the early 20th century, more than 100 years ago. It is a day celebrated by all, commemorating women's efforts to promote their equal rights worldwide. The reception, highlighting solemn and warm atmosphere, was one of the key activities that the ACWF held this year to commemorate the International Women's Day.

Shen Yueyue, Vice-Chairperson of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress and President of the ACWF, addressed the opening ceremony.

She pointed out that the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) was successfully held in 2017, establishing the historical position of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, and embarking on a new journey towards a modern socialist China. Under the strong leadership of the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core, new achievements have been made in the cause of women in China. Women contribute to the cause of socialism with Chinese characteristics for a new era and give full play to their role as "Half of the Sky" in the realization of the Chinese dream of national rejuvenation. In 2018, we will rally more closely behind the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core. We will encourage all women in China to maintain political integrity, think in terms of the big picture, follow the leadership core, keep in alignment with the central Party leadership, have full confidence in the path, theory, system and culture of socialism with Chinese characteristics, follow the lead of the Party, and contribute our share to the success of socialism with Chinese characteristics for a new era. Chinese women are willing to working together for a community with a shared future for mankind with all women worldwide.

The Party and State Leaders who attended the reception included Liu Yandong, Sun Chunlan, Yang Jiechi, Yan Junqi, Peng Peiyun, He Luli, Gu Xiulian, Chen Zhili and Wang Zhizhen.

Song Xiuyan, Deputy Director of the National Working Committee on Children and Women under the State Council, Vice-President and First Member of the Secretariat of the ACWF, presided over the Reception.

More than 1,000 people attended the event, including some women National People's Congress deputies and Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference National Committee members, National March 8th Red-banner Award Holders, women experts, women academicians and women's representatives of all walks of life. Guests from abroad included foreign ambassadors, wives of foreign ambassadors and diplomats, female foreign diplomats, female representatives of UN System and from international organizations in China, female foreign experts and wives of foreign experts.
