CPPCC Member Calls for Perserving Chinese Culture

WORLD 2020/12/16 11:16

The Chinese Peasants and Workers Democratic Party (CPWDP) called for the establishment of the Chinese Mother's Day at this year's session of the National Committee of the

The Chinese nation has a tradition of paying close attention to family relations since ancient times. However, it has never had a Mother's Day of its own, settling for celebrating the West's Mother's Day instead.

The Central Committee of CPWDP said they think an initiative aimed at setting up a Chinese Mother's Day will strengthen the cultural confidence of country.

In the U.S., Mother's Day was set up to comfort mothers who lost their children during the Civil War. Globally, over 140 countries have set up a Mother's Day. And 78 countries have Mother's Day with their own national characteristics.

According to the instructions of President Xi Jinping about cultivating and promoting core socialist values, people in China should explore and make good use of traditional cultural resources, stick to Chinese cultural consciousness and enhance Chinese cultural confidence, said the spokesperson of CPWDP.

The establishment of a Chinese Mother's Day is an important prerequisite for maintaining the main position of Chinese culture, promoting the sense of Chinese culture and cultivating a good social atmosphere.

The establishment of a Chinese Mother's Day will help enhance mother's self-improvement and responsibility, and also helps cultivate virtuous behavior among the young.

Besides official organizations, many civil organizations and schools have supported the proposal.

A primary school in Beijing was awarded the title of Advanced Unit of Ideological and Moral Education for Minors in China by the Central Commission for Guiding Cultural and Ethical Progress in November 2017 since it carries out education on respecting mothers and uses the concept of a Chinese Mother's Day.

The story of ancient philosopher Mencius's mother is popular in the country and she is respected as the model of a good parent. Thus CPWDP proposes to set the birthday of Mencius (the second day of the fourth month on lunar calendar) as Chinese Mother's Day.
